Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
